Aims & Objectives

This course gives students an understanding in end of life training, including local organisations' policies and procedures. Delegates will gain increased knowledge and skills to enable them to deliver an effective, caring, professional service to all service users/older adults and for those who provide a supportive role to their families and carers.

  • How to care for patients that are close to death, the importance of dignity in care
  • Importance of emotional support for the patient and relatives
  • Ethical issues around end of life care
  • Equipment and medication that should be given at the end of life
  • Organisation policy and procedures 
  • The Liverpool Pathway
  • The holistic approach to the care of the dying patient
  • Mental capacity Act
  • Care for individual service users and their families, cares and friends 
  • The importance of communication and working with other services and professionals 
  • Understand death and dying
Target Group
  • For all staff working in the Health and Social Care setting and for those who provide a supportive role to their families and carers..
Accredited
  • This is a non-accredited course.
Additional Information
This short course can be used as a first introduction to caring for people at the end of life, or as a refresher on an annual basis.
